Great blender, so far – and a recipe for a delicious smoothie!
I picked this up after being unable to find a blender under $30 in any local stores that had decent reviews (I always check our site for pricing and reviews before purchasing anything). I had purchased a VERY similar model (same brand, and similar features) on impulse at a local store for right at $30, but decided not to even take it out of the box after reading the reviews on our store (my phone was dead when I purchased it, or I would have checked the reviews before pulling the trigger). After a bit of research I came across this unit which was a few dollars less, and is the same brand with almost identical features – so I was surprised that it had so much better reviews, but I figured it was worth the gamble and I needed a new blender for my morning smoothies ASAP (my old one was not working at-all). I never took the other one out of the box, so I can’t compare this one to that one – but I can say that I’m very happy with this blender – it works perfectly for what I need it for, and although I have only had it for a few weeks, I haven’t had any problems yet and it seems sturdy enough to last for a while. The problem with my last blender was that the gears the connected the motor in the base to the blades in the pitcher were made of rubber or soft plastic, so over the years they eventually got stripped until they were unable to catch each other enough to make the blades spin. During my search, I came across several models that had metal pieces connecting the blades to the motor which seems like it would be ideal. This model uses plastic, however it seems thick and sturdy enough to last a while. The pitcher is also very wide all the way to the bottom. Many blenders have a ‘funnel’ shaped pitcher that is smaller at the bottom (by the blades), sometimes causing ice or frozen chunks to get caught in the blades which can cause problems with the motor and/or the gears that connect the blades to the motor. Because the bottom of this is so wide, it seems like this happens less frequently because the blades will simply push the frozen chunks aside rather than getting them stuck between the blades and the glass. I rarely used the lid on my old blender, as I don’t usually have issues with the ingredients splashing out – however, the lid of this blender has a couple of features that I really like. One is the spout that allows you to more easily pour your smoothies into your cups with less mess/dripping, and the other is a little ‘flap’ that allows you to easily pour in ingredients while blending without worrying about splashing.I’ve only had this for a few weeks, but so-far it is working very well and I feel confident that it will hold up for a good while. I definitely recommended this for anyone looking for a sturdy, powerful blender in this price range. I’m only withholding the 5th star because I would really like to see metal pieces connecting the blades to the motor instead of plastic – but hopefully this won’t be an issue.BONUS: DELICIOUS SMOOTHIE RECIPE!1. Optionally put 1/2 or 1 full avocado (removed from the skin and separated from the seed/pit) in the blender (depending on how much you are making and/or how creamy and how much avocado flavor you want.2. Optionally add a banana to help thicken it up a bit and add some more nutrients3. Add 2-3 cups (or your desired amount) of any type of fresh or frozen fruit you like. I especially like peaches, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, pineapple, mango, and cherries.4. Optionally add a scoop of protein powder to add some more nutrients. I use vanilla flavored powder to add a bit of flavor as well. You can also add powdered vitamins such as Airborne, vitamin C, or fiber.5. Mix in about a cup or so (depending on how thick you want your smoothie) of juice. I personally prefer fresh squeezed orange or apple juice, but use whatever you like or have available.6. Optionally add a half cup or so of GoodBelly, or any other type of probiotic or nutrient rich juice. You can also use wheat grass, or something similar to get some extra nutrients.7. Optionally add a half cup or so of kefir or a few spoonfuls of yogurt. I prefer either vanilla or berry flavored kefir which adds some probiotics to your drink, and a bit of sweetness and flavor. Obviously you can leave this out if you prefer a dairy-free smoothie.8 Start blending the ingredients on low, then turn it up to medium once the big chunks start to break down.9. Optionally add a couple tablespoons of agave nectar, or honey as a natural sweetener. You shouldn’t need much, especially if you used sweet juice or flavored yogurt. I prefer raw light agave nectar, and just a couple of squirts is enough.10. Optionally, add a few drops of grapefruit seed extract, or other natural oil or extract for additional nutrients.11. Blend on medium until it begins to ‘fold’ (you should basically have a smoothie funnel/tornado) – if this doesn’t happen within a minute or so, it may be too thick and you may need to add some more juice (or use a thicker straw). Then you are ready to drink. Taste a bit with a spoon or straw first, and add more ingredients as desired to get the perfect texture and taste before pouring.12. Rinse the pitcher and lid with hot water right away to ensure you have a clean blender to use the next morning. This may seem like a lot of steps, but once you do it a few times it takes less than 5 minutes to have a healthy and delicious breakfast that you can drink on your way to work. I always make enough to share with my kids, so I know everyone gets a nice dose of fruit, protein and vitamins each morning. Give it a try, and you will probably be hooked! Enjoy…

It works well as a blender – not a food processor substitute
This isn’t a Vitamix by any stretch of the imagination. But it’s I think it’s a decent value for the price. Where else can you get a 40oz 5 speed blender with a glass pitcher for under $40 USD? I picked this blender for a couple of reasons1. The previous blender I had for over 15 years was a Hamilton Beach2. The toaster I have is also a Hamilton Beach, which I’ve had for over 20 years.Do I like it? I think so…Short recap of below1. For a sub $50.00 blender I like it. It works well2. I really like the (heavy) glass pitcher. This is the main reason why I purchased it.3. I like the base (motor) it feels solid, and it works very well4. It’s quieter than my old Hamilton Beach blender, which is my only point of reference. For me that’s good.5. The button feel very similar to my old blender which lasted a long time, so that too is good.6. I REALLY don’t like how hard the top is to remove7. I don’t like the cheap feel of the plastic bits attached to the pitcherWhat I like1. I like the glass pitcher – yes it’s heavy but it’s also made of glass thick enough to withstand crushing ice relatively quietly. Plastic pitches sound like they may shatter in the process.2. I like that the bottom screws off making the pitcher and blades easy to clean.3. I like the several blending options (though I use the two pulses more than the other 3 options).4. It makes a great smoothie & crushed ice drinks such as Margarita or Daiquiri very quickly and evenly blended.5. Worked great for making pesto & Harissa too, though the parsley had to be added in a bit at a time to ensure smooth consistency. I typically make these two items in my Cuisinart Food Processor which performs both of the above tasks in about 1/3 of the time it took in the blender. The consistency is also better in my Cuisinart. I figured I’d give the blender a go on these just as a test. I’m not gonna try making peanut butter.6. The base and mechanical bits under the pitcher have a quality feel for the price sub $50.00 price tag. The blender stays put, and a hand isn’t required on top of the blender to keep the pitcher from walking off the spinny bits. What I’m on the fence (can’t decide) aboutit’s not particularly quiet – but quieter than my old blender, and definitely NOT quieter than my Cuisinart Food Processor. So I’m on the fence. What I don’t like, and I mean really don’t likeThe top is made of LDPE plastic making it extremely hard to get off when at room temp and especially straight out of the fridge. I’m not being a wimp; the top is extremely hard to get off. So hard I’m afraid the “lifting tab” is going to snap off in my attempts. My wife gave up getting the lid off and leaves it for me to struggle with.I don’t even try anymore to get the lid off if its cold. I run the whole pitcher under really hot water before I attempt to get the lid off. The hot water makes the LDPE plastic top pliable, making it easier to remove. Effortless is not be a synonym I’d use to describe removing the lid from the pitcher. This would be a deal breaker for a person with disabilities, Arthritis, weak fingers, and/or an elderly person. There is now way my Mom wouldn’t be able to get the lid off this blender. What I mildly don’t like1. The top has a secondary flap, for what I’m not sure. The flap doesn’t have a proper hinge. The hinge is molded into the lid of the pitcher. Being made of LDPE plastic, I’m pretty confident it’s going to snap off in time.2. The whole top / lid to the pitcher has a ton of nooks and crannies making it a challenge to clean quickly. A brush and soaking in hot soapy water is what works for me. I use it every day, so I wash by hand instead of using the dishwasher.3. The base that holds the blades onto the pitcher is made of thin ABS plastic which I’m quite certain if the base came into contact with counter top at an angle with a bit of force, aka dropping the pitcher onto the base or inadvertently smacked against the edge of the counter it will result in a broken base.. Maybe shatter would be a better termThose are my thoughts and experiences with this pitcher – You decide.

Good $$ value
I just got this blender today and have not used it yet, that’s why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I just received my Hamilton Beach food processor yesterday and liked it. Both items arrived well packaged. Both were the same price $29.99, but the blender is normally 49.99.I was impressed right away, the blender jar is thick glass and a bit smaller than some blenders. This is perfect for a bachelor household such as mine or a couple. The lid rocks. The pour spout has a closeable cover that fits snugly. There is a flexible vent behind the spout…… for blending hot liquids like stocks and soups 👍. The gasket on the lid seals well to the jar, but you have to check all way around to make sure it’s a good seal, trust your eyes, not just your thumbs. The blender blade is secured by a screw on plastic ring and gasket. This is very convenient for cleaning after use. I felt comfortable writing this review before using this blender because from the time I opened the box it kept on stacking up the quality points.I can’t wait to use this blender for some salsa with fermented hot peppers, soups, dips and whatever I can think of. I will send an update after I have used it.

Powerful and Versatile Blender – Great Everyday Performance at an Affordable Price
I’m very satisfied with the Hamilton Beach Power Elite 58148 blender. It’s powerful enough to handle smoothies, frozen fruits, and ice with no problem, and it blends everything pretty smoothly for everyday use.The design is simple but practical, and I like that it has multiple speed options so I can adjust depending on what I’m making. The glass jar feels sturdy and easy to clean, which is a big plus for me. It also doesn’t take up too much space on the counter.

Great for Avoiding Plastic… But Be Prepared to Wrestle the Lid
Great for Avoiding Plastic… But Be Prepared to Wrestle the LidI specifically sought out the Hamilton Beach Power Elite Wave Action Blender because of the glass jar instead of plastic. We make protein smoothies daily, and I’m trying to avoid as many microplastics and unnecessary chemicals in our food as possible.I’ve also owned some of the higher-end blenders that cost several hundred dollars each. Performance-wise, this one is definitely not on that level. But those expensive blenders are also plastic, and if you decide to switch from plastic to glass like I did, just be prepared for some compromises in blending performance.Overall, for the price, I actually ended up buying multiple units so I’d have backup glass jars for both the house and our motorhome.Pros:• It’s GLASS. That alone narrowed my options considerably.• The blades can be disassembled from the jar for a much better clean.• Dishwasher safe parts are a huge plus in daily life.• It generally does a decent job on smoothies and ice.• Replacement/extra jars are affordable enough that I stocked up.Cons:• The “patented drip-free pour spout” is… optimistic marketing. It absolutely drips, and ours also leaks from under the lid while pouring.• The lid is ridiculously difficult to remove. I’m not exaggerating when I say it feels like you might injure yourself, drop the jar, or launch the lid across the kitchen once it finally gives way.• Pouring without the lid attached creates a massive mess because of the jar design.• It usually handles ice fine, but tougher fibrous ingredients like fresh ginger root should definitely be pre-chopped unless you enjoy discovering ginger “hairballs” wrapped around the blades later. 😅• One of the jars/bottom assemblies from my original order never fit correctly and constantly leaked. That said, despite the annoyances, I keep using it because finding an affordable blender with a true glass jar is getting harder and harder these days.I personally rely heavily on reviews and try to include the details I’d want to know before purchasing. Hopefully sharing my experience helps someone choose the right item the first time 😊

Powerful, Great Value
I purchased this about a month ago with some specific uses in mind. I was definitely seeking the best value, but still hoping for some quality. I’m pleasantly surprised. Easily comes apart for easy cleaning. It’s fast and powerful. It’s definitely getting the job done and then some for my salsa-making. It’s stable on the countertop. The lid has multiple access points for adding ingredients while blending, and that’s great. I’m very happy. If I have a critique, the lid has to go on just the right way, but once I figured it out, it’s been fine.

Value, minimal plastic exposure, efficient
This blender doesn’t have contact between plastic and the food aside from the top cover. As long as you do not fill the thing and blend, you generally don’t have your food even hitting the plastic at the top, but it does hit it if you fill the blender and it does take pieces of plastic with it if you’re making something like a frozen smoothie, even if micro.I would have given it a perfect five stars if that wasn’t the case.Another annoyance but something that I could have no issue with overall is the spout without the plastic top is messy to pour with due to its shape. For the price and efficiency of this product it was definitely worth it though I wish they had an alternative top.

Well priced and effective
This blender works well. I use it frequently to make smoothies for breakfast and I feel I have already gotten my moneys worth after only a few weeks. It is a good size. Not too large but I can make about 3 8 oz smoothies at once easily. It is very easy to use with only two pieces there is little to no assembly needed. I have not encountered any issues with it so far.

Reliable product
The blender has been great but since the lid fits so snuggly you really gotta work to get it loose. We bought ours about a year ago and the glass pitcher just broke when I went to pry the lid off and accidentally hit the base on a plate.

Necessary
It is exactly what I expected—not too big, but not too small either. It is very practical, sturdy, and fast. I love it.

Annoying
Blends great but I can’t get the lid to seal 100%, so I have to hold in place while in use.

No useless accessories, just a perfect blender in the $30 range!
I’ve used many blenders before, including expensive $100 ones, but they only waste cabinet space with useless plastic accessories. This blender in the $30 range is the real deal. It only gives you what you actually need: a heavy, safe glass jar, a simplelid, and a powerful base. The safety drain hole on the back is pure genius. It grinds my boiled carrots and avocados perfectly on button #3. It’s an honest, smart product made by someone who truly understands kitchen work. 5 stars all the way!

Good, But Could Be Better
Very powerful and easy to use. It blends smoothies and frozen fruit quickly, and cleaning it is simple. Great quality for the price. Highly recommended.

My favorite blender EVER!
This is the best blender I have ever had. It was a total surprise that it is so good and so reasonably priced. I used to have a Vitamix that cost almost $300 and I like this Hamilton Beach blender much better. One caveat is that it is does not have a gigantic container/blender bowl. However, it is quite sufficient in size for two people. It is really well made, well engineered, and super easy to clean. Also the blender bowl is glass, which is very important if you care at all about avoiding microplastics in your food.
